ch. Some res. at homestead; gr. ch. still living , but with-
out family history.
The old graveyard shows no stones of Sophia or her husband . Local
historians searched this family with no success. The County Record s of
Oswego, (Census, Land, Probate) can at the present time be searche d only
by personal visit.
A reading of the 1855 U. S. Census (not clear) adds the fo llowing:
Alonson Blodgett was b. 1785, Mass., living 1855. Wife Sophiah. (l iving?)
ch in household (grandchildren?):
Augustus Blodgett b. 1826, Onondaga Co., N. Y.
Prudence " b. 1829, Oswego Co., N. Y.
Josephine " b. 1836 "
Alanson, Jr. " b. 1840, Michigan
Also living in his family were Alanson B. Pollay and Marion Pollay . (Was
there a dau. who m. (----) Pollay?)
The Hist. Onondaga Co. by Johnson, pub. 1877, lists amon g persons
who contributed to its publication: In Hannibal; Blodgett, Alanson , farmer
and lumbering, b. Onon. Co., sett. 1807 in Hannibal (P.O.) on Lo t 50, first
sett. by Artemas Blodgett. This information was probably given by
Alanson Blodgett, Jr., himself.
In explanation, the town of Lysander, Onondaga Co., was pa rt of the
military tract opened to settlement and organized 1794. The townsh ip of
Hannibal was set off from Lysander in 1807 and is now in Oswego Co .
Sophia's older sister and brother, Lorinda and John, wer e with her
here and many other people from Wells, as well as the husband's re latives
(see above). Some of the Blodgetts had been living near Wells, per haps
in Granville, N. Y.
