There is also the Probate record of Mary's father's estate in 1765,
indicating that they lived there at that time by saying nothing to the co n-
trary. Jonathan spent half his life at the old home, and may have never
lived elsewhere. 'Where the name Jonathan appears later, it seems to refe r
to Jonathan, Jr. In 1797, Thomas, William, and Jonathan all appear in
transfers with Keeneys, as though in settlement. Does this mark the date
      of Jonathan's death?
In the 1790 U. S. Census, John Pember was head of a family of self, 1
male under 16 yrs., and 2 females of all ages, in New York City (out Ward ).
This count would answer for Jonathan Jr.'s family as well as Jonathan's , but
Jonathan Jr., did not stay in N. Y. long, if at all. And the name Pembe r may
be an error anyway, owing to the poor condition of the old schedules when
      printed.
So we have no proof of time or place of Jonathan's death.
Nor has any Revolutionary War record of any of this family been
proved, though some are said to have served. A service record of the name
"Pembrook" in Pawling, Kinderhook, "Wiessenfels" et al. includes two
Jonathans, William, Thomas, David, and some of these seem to be connected
with Pember activities; other doubtful names could be Pember, but many
men served of whom there is now no existing record.
Whether Jonathan lived out of Conn. or not, we know that his family
was associated with those Wades who went to Litchfield Co., and the "Ob-
long", and that they were intimate, if not intermarried, with families fr om
the lower Hudson who moved back and forth to and from Lyme, notably
the Wessells and Still families. Both of the latter names belong to the l ower
Hudson valley, not to original Conn. families.
