      Patterson. (Vt. V. R.) ("Rev. Griswold was the best-loved pastor
      of Pawlet Cong. Chh. 1791-1831, and d. 1852, Ae 87." -Vt. Gaz.)

      res. Poultney: rem with parents to Champlain, N.Y. abt. 1798; mar.
      lic. gives res. Canada; lived a while at old home in Poultney, for
      the Cong. Chh. R. (without date) mentions Thankful Pember; in acc't
      book of Dr. Moore of Champlain, first entry of Asa is Dec. 2, 1802;
      also Feb. 8, 1804, "Enoculation Cow Pox. Did not take." Abt 1826
      emigrated to Erie and Chau. Cos., thence to Lorain Co. There is no
      record of his going on to Wood Co., nor any record of death. (The
      name Asahel is on a voting list in Pemberville in 1836, reading
      Hiram Asahel, etc but his son was called Hiram Asahel to distinguish
      him from Hiram Ethan Pember.)

      Patterson:
      Of Scotch descent; sett. in vicinity of Londonderry, N. H. before 1750;
      later near Londonderry, Vt. In 1790 U. S. Census, Pawlet had two Patterso n
      families, one of whom, Thankful Patterson, head, had one minor male and
      three femails. In 1800, Thankful had one male 10-16, one femail over 16,
      self over 45; Robert Patterson, a wife and one girl over 16. Pattersons
      were among the first in Clinton Co., where Capt. James Patterson was firs t
      M. E. class leader 1816 at Perry's Mills.
