In the early settlement of Chelmsford and Billerica, Mass., appeared fi v e men of the name of Parkerââ¬ânamely, Abraham, Jacob, James, Joseph, Jo hn . Most of them were bros. and it is believed all were thus related. A t le ast two of their number had previously resided at Woburn.
John settled in Billerica with the first of its pioneers and until his d e ath, June 14, 1667, was the leading man of the town. He left a wid., Ma ry , who had formerly been wid. of John Poulter. She m., third, April 19 , 16 74, Thomas Chamberlain. John Parker left no chn., but descendants o f hi s bros. were numerous. The writer has often had occasion to investig ate t his family, and except for what is given of certain branches in But lerââ¬Ë s ââ¬ÅGroton in over-concise form, and with some erroneous connecti ons, th e lack of information in print has necessitated recourse to

original records. An effort is here made to account for the first thre e g enerations with some degree of system for the benefit of all who ar e inte rested. In doing this, examination has been made of town and proba te reco rds, together with over 500 deeds. These efforts should lead t o a conside rable degree of accuracy, and nearly all members of that peri od are accou nted for, but some things are lacking, and it is earnestly r equested tha t those who can supply additions and corrections will send t hem to the Tr anscript.
The early Parkers were a fine, prominent and interesting family, and th e y deserve more attention than they have, heretofore, received. In thi s ar ticle the bros. and their descendants are divided into separate grou ps a s follows: First, Abraham, second Jacob, third James, fourth Joseph.
Group II.:
JACOB PARKER, bro. of the first Abraham of Group I., settled in Chelmsfo r d as early as 1656. He was town clerk and held the rank of sergeant. H e d . before Apl. 6, 1669, when an inventory of his estate was rendered . Hi s w. was Sarah ____. She seems to have been the Sarah Parker, who m . Aug . 4, 1675, Cap. John Wait of Malden. Her s. Jacob Parker of Malde n sold h is f.ââ¬Ës homeÃÂstead, with a few acres of land, May 17, 1682, ( deed 9-20) a nd, (deed 29-259), Nov. 5, 1713, Sarah Howard, Stephen Pierc e and w. Tabi tha, and Ebenezer Parker

ââ¬âall of Chelmsfordââ¬âand John Flood (or Floyd) and w. Rachel; Thomas Wa it a nd w. Mary, and Thomas Parkerââ¬âall of Maldenââ¬âand Rebecca Danfort h of Bille rica, sold to ââ¬Åour brotherââ¬Â Benjamin Parker of Chelmsfor d their w in Chelmsford, known as Robin Hill meadow, fo rmerly the proper ty of Jacob Parker of the town aforesaid. The phraseolo gy of this deed wo uld seem to show that there was a son Ebenezer, but i t is not believed th at such was the case. The Thomas Parker who signed t he deed was s. of Jac ob(2), deceased, and it is safe to think that Ebene zer was s. of Thomas(2 ), deceased; in other words, Jacob(2) and Thomas(2 ), being deceased, eac h was represented by his eldest s. Chn.:
