      William Mullins

From the book "The Alden Family in the Alden House" by Dorot h y Wentworth!

The family of William Mullins, known descendants of which sur v ive today only
through the children of his daughter Priscilla, came with hi g h expectations and met
tragedy in the New World. "Mr. William Mullins" and his wif e ; and 2 children Joseph,
& Priscila and a servant Robert Carter" sailed on the Mayflow e r. "Mr. Molines, and
his wife, his sone, and his servant dyed the first winter. On l y his daughter Priscila
survived, and maried with John Alden, who are both living [ i n 1650], and have 11
      children."

Nathaniel Morton, in his "New Englands Memorial", said of Mul l ins, "[He was] a man
pious and well deserving, endowed also with a considerable ou t ward estate, and had
it been the will of God that he had survived, might have prov e d an useful member of
this place." The nuncupative (oral) will of William Mullins , w ritten by Governor Carver
on February 21, 1620/1 and witnessed by Carver, Giles Heale , a nd Christopher
Jones (the latter were surgeon and captain of the Mayflower ) w as the first made in
New England. A copy was carried by the Mayflower on her retu r n voyage to England
in 1621 and was administered there by his other daughter, Sar a h (Mullins) Blunden.
The will names his wife, Alice, sons Joseph and William, an d d aughter Priscilla; and
the administration states he was "late of Dorking, co. Surre y , deceased in parts
beyond the seas." Mullins had been residing in Stoke, near Gu i ldford, county Surrey,
before leaving England and was involved in the religious trou b les of the times there.
He owned nine shares in the Adventurer's Company that financ e d the Pilgrim's
      colony.

Mullins's eldest son, William Jr., was .the father of three c h ildren baptized in Dorking:
      Elizabeth, bp. 26 March 1618; Ruth,, bp. 31 Oct. 1619; and Sa r a, bp. 5 May 1622.
Sara accompanied her father to New England when he later ca m e to claim his
inheritance (he died in Braintree in early 1674). She marri e d three times but
      apparently had no children.

      False and Faked Mayflower Genealogy
      http://members.aol.com/calebj/hoaxes.html
Over the past two centuries, many people have--either deliberately or be c ause of poor research--published accounts of Mayflower ancestry that a r e completely false. Here is a collection of the most commonly known fa ls e and faked Mayflower lines. This list is based on a series of articl e s appearing in the Mayflower Descendant, volume 20, 21, 23, 34 titled " Fa lse and Faked Mayflower Lines"; the Mayflower Descendant article in vo lum e 43 entitled "A Mayflower Hoax Resurfaces"; published articles in th e Ma yflower Descendant, The American Genealogist, the New England Histor ic an d Genealogical Register, Mayflower Families and Mayflower Familie s in Pro gress series of books, and my own experiences answering visito r questions .

The list is organized alphabetically by the surname involved. Source ab b reviations are as follows: MD = Mayflower Descendant; MQ = Mayflower Q ua rterly, NEHGR = New England Historic and Genealogical Register; MF = M ayf lower Families for Five Generations; MFIP = Mayflower Families in Pro gres s, TAG = The American Genealogist, NYGBR = New York Genealogical an d Biog raphical Record, and TG = The Genealogist.

MULLINS. William Mullins is not descended from any Molyneaux family, n o r does he have any proven royal ancestry. There is no evidence that h i s wife Alice was named Alice Atwood or Alice Poretiers. [MD 44:38-43]
