OATES, Jesse, private, N.C. Malitia
Soldier was born in 1756 to Jethro and Artesha (probably King)
Oates. Married first to Laruhama Stevens who was born 1758 and
died before 13 Apr 1797. Soldier married 2nd on 13 Apr 1798 to
Zilpha Mason.
The children from the two marriages were:
1- William (1782-1833) who died in Miss.
2- Jethro who killed David Cogdell in a duel and had to leave N.C.,
going to Ky.
3- Nancy.
4- David.
5- Bryan.
6- John Mason born 1800.
7 Elizabeth.
8- Jesse Jr.
9- Richard Mason.
10- Rachel.
11- Mariah.
12- Zilpha Ann.
13- Matthews Mason.
14- Harriett.
15- Oliver Hays.
16- Wyatt. And
17- Charles Campbell.
They later removed to Muhlenberg county, Ky, where Jesse died
on 10 Aug 1831.
