      A genealogical history of Edward Spalding of Massachusetts
      Bay and his descendants.

      81. JOSEPH3 [16] (John2, Edward1), b. Oct. 22, 1673,
      in Chelmsford, Ms.; m. Elizabeth, daughter of John
      Colburn, of Chelmsford, April 10, 1700. He d. March 12.
      1728, �. 54. His gravestone is nearly in the middle of the
      Chelmsford burying-ground, just north of the main path. He
      left a will, and Timothy Spalding, his brother, was guardian
      of his children, Simeon and Hannah.

      The land assigned him by the town is recorded as
      follows:--

      "Jan. 11, 1711. Land laid out to Joseph Spalding on John
      Spalding, Senr. Right. Two acres and a half more or less in
      the first division of the Commons. Bounded at the most
      northerly corner on a walnut tree: and on a straight line to
      the most westerly corner to a black oak tree: at the
      southerly corner on a walnut tree: on all the other points on
      his own land. Secondly, two acres more or less lying at
      Crooked Spring; bounded at the most northerly corner on
      a white oak: on the most westerly corner to a white oak:
      being Richard Stevens his corner bounds: and at the most
      southerly corner on a white oak. Thirdly, two acres and a
      half more or less: one acre on the Right of John Wright;
      one acre on the right of Ephraim Hildreth Senr. and half an
      acre on his father John Spalding, his Right: bounded at the
      most easterly corner on a stake and heap of stones: west
      by the highway by a stake and heap of stones: on the
      southerly corner a little white oak: east to a black oak
      being Jonathan Bowers, his bounds: on all other points on
      his own land."
